Gay marriages are becoming legal in many countries around the world, and the LGBT community is experiencing rapid growth as a result of the growing acceptance of homosexual and transgender people.
Since marrying someone of the same gender is becoming a regular thing in most societies, one may begin to wonder what the advantages and downsides are.
Many people have come up with various opinions on why people should or should not get involved in same-sex unions, and this post aims to look into the different views on the topic of same-sex marriage.
Parenting
No study proves that straight people turn out to be better parents than gay couples, Parenting abilities depends on the individual and has nothing to do with sexuality.
This means that a gay couple could be better at raising kids than the regular husband and wife. Many gay people have raised kids around the world both as single parents and as married people.
Still, nothing has changed, and no record or research proves that the children turned out badly.
However, it is essential that a child grows up to experience than male and female dynamics of a heterosexual relationship at home so they can feel the complimentary parenting approach of both sexes.
It is also fair that a child has parents of opposite sexes so that when they grow up, they do not feel forced to accept a sexuality that they do not agree with. If a child chooses to be gay, it would be because he wants to and not because he grew up with gay parents.
Procreation
A same-sex couple would love their kids whether they are adopted or artificially inseminated. There is no questioning their ability to care for their young or show the required commitment that heterosexual parents show to their kids.
The downside, however, is that same-sex couples cannot have children the natural way thus they are left with the option of adoptions or science.
Health
Marriage is believed to be healthy as studies have shown that happily married people live longer and stay healthier.
This also means that gay couples can enjoy longevity and health if they are happy being with each other.
But, we cannot deny the fact that some dangers exist when it comes to the topic of sexual health. Anal sex is the case of gay men is something that might be pleasurable but carries a lot of risks.
Sexually transmitted infections are also to be considered, but this doesn’t mean that heterosexual couples who get involved in anal sex or have unprotected sex with multiple partners are free from the health dangers that come with their actions.
Equality
Some people believe that the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the US and other countries around the world is a significant step in the right direction.
They have been laws made to protect the rights of minority groups in different parts of the world and the LGBT community also deserves to enjoy that same privilege.
Looking at the opposite side, some individuals argue that granting people the right to marry other people of the same gender because they feel it is proof of equality would mean that when other groups decide to ask for legal reasons to get married to objects, animals, or even family members, the government can’t say no.
Religion
The founding fathers of America hoped that there would be a separation from the state and religion and the government has proven that-that still holds true to this day.
This explains why despite the religious opposition to gay marriages the American government again found a way to make it legal. The majority of United States citizens are Christians especially the African-Americans.
Christianity points out clearly that marriage should be between a man and a woman therefore despite the law written in black and white, the court of public opinion has been running at snail pace to accept the legitimacy of gay marriages in America.
However, the legalisation of gay marriages is as earlier stated, a way the government has chosen to prove that there is a separation between religion and the state.
Emotions
Some of argued that loving someone of the same gender sexually cannot be compared to loving someone of the opposite sex in the same way.
The first kisses can never feel the same, no butterfly in your belly, and no hurrying up to do your make up or fix your teeth because of your crush in coming over.
Well, that is one point we cannot agree entirely with because those who have been in same-sex affairs beg to differ.
Love knows no boundaries of race, colour, or gender. If your heart wants it, then go for it.
