The national outcoming day was on the 11th of October, and in light of it, we are sharing with you the update of celebrities who have come out as members of the LGBTQ community this year.
It took a lot for these individuals to breathe in and open up to the rest of the world about their sexual identities.
In no particular order, here is the list you have been anticipating.
Janelle Monae
Hollywood actress and singer Janelle Monae spoke on stage March 2018 independent spirit award in Santa Monica. In her speech, the Dirty computer songstress identified as a queer female.
After several years of speculation, she revealed that she has previously “been in relationships with both men and women.” According to Janelle, she formally identified as bisexual “but then later I read about pansexuality and was like: ‘Oh, these are things that I identify with too. I’m open to learning more about who I am.”
Demi Lovato
The famous sorry not sorry singer who checked into rehab recently following a drug overdose had revealed as at last year that she was open to dating females, claiming “that’s how I’ve always felt”.
However, in March this year, Demi finally revealed her true feelings about her sexuality, saying that “I’m very fluid, and I think love is love. You can find it in any gender. I like the freedom of being able to flirt with whoever I want.”
Brendon Urie
Back in July this year, the panic at the disco front man shared with the rest of the world that he was pansexual. That means he and Janelle fall in the same group.
The rock star who is currently in his 30’s donated $ 1 million to assist LGBT children in schools across the United States of America saying: “just people that I am attracted to.”
He added: “I guess you could qualify me as pansexual because I really don’t care. If a person is great, then a person is great. I just like good people, if your heart’s in the right place.”
Jason Mraz
When the singer identified as bisexual in July this year, he explained that he had experienced sex with both men and women and that makes him a two-spirited human. The term “Two-spirit” is one used by the indigenous North Americans to describe a person who possesses both a male and female spirit and is sexually fluid.
Kehlani
In April this year, the singer came out as queer on twitter “I’m queer. Not bi, not straight. I’m attracted to women, men REALLY attracted to queer men, non-binary people, intersex people, trans people.”
Max Bemis
The head singer of the “say anything” rock band made the announcement of his sexuality in an emotional letter which also shared that the group was splitting.
The 34-year old wrote under the heading titled “GAY STUFF” “I have always been bi-ish or queer or a straight guy who can also like boys. I always talked or joked about it with my friends and found it to be blatantly clear I was.”
Saara Aalto
Eurovision 2018 star came out with her sexuality in March during a talk with Pink News. The Finnish singer said, “I am very proud to be lesbian, and I feel very much like I am lesbian, totally.”
She added that she is glad she never had to battle with accepting her sexual identity “My sexuality was never an issue.”
Anne-Marie
The British singer who catapulted to the number one spot on top music charts in over 20 countries around the globe as a featured artist on the hit song “Rockabye” by Clean Bandit, opened up about her sexual identity after the release of her debut album titled “Speak Your Mind.”
Anne-Marie said: “I’ve never just been attracted to men. I’ve never just been attracted to women. I’ve never felt the need to tell anyone that I’m bisexual. I don’t feel like I am. I just feel like I’m attracted to who I like. I honestly feel like everyone is like that.”
Indy Yelich-O’Connor
Indy is a sister to superstar singer Lorde, revealed back in the month of May that she is bisexual. The 19-year old took to one of her social media pages to announce her sexual orientation in the most shortly and straightforwardly manner possible.
The Author wrote “plot twist (I like boys and girls).” Lorde made sure to share her sister’s short story with her fans via social media.
Zander Hodgson
The British actor and model pitched a tent with the many celebs who decided to come out of their shells this year to reveal who they indeed are on the inside using a YouTube video.
In the Video, the actor stated that: “I wanted to tell everyone that I am gay, and although that doesn’t change anything for me, and hopefully not for you, I just thought it was a critical thing to share with everyone.”
Adding that: “I wanted to do this video as well because when I think about all the kids out there that are being bullied or are really struggling with their sexuality, even teenage or adults, I just want you to know that you are not alone.”
Andrea Russett
Andrea Russett wouldn’t have come out as Bi-sexual just yet if she wasn’t motivated by her best friend who told her that she was convinced BI-sexual people to end up in hell.
Andrea come out with her sexuality last month saying “I came out to Sandra as bisexual four years ago. (Surprise! Yeah. Not exactly how I planned to come out publicly, but s**t happens I guess),”
She added that she would love to inform “anyone who is struggling with anything similar in their life, you are not alone. You are not any less of a person because of who you may choose to love.”
Tadd Fujikawa
Tadd became the very first professional golfer to identify as gay. According to him, he hopes his story would motivate other members of the LGBT+ community.
“So… I’m gay. Many of you may have already known that. I don’t expect everyone to understand or accept me. But please be gracious enough to not push your beliefs on me or anyone in the LGBTQ community. My hope is this post will inspire every one of you to be more empathetic and loving towards one another.”
There you have it. These are only twelve from the lot, so if you are seeking motivation before you come out, you have people to look up to.
