2018 so far has been a spectacular year in the celebrity world. Quite a number of things have happened this year in Hollywood.
We have seen a lot of engagements and a lot of couples agreeing to walk down the aisle together and be with each other till the end of time. But then, on the other side, there are a lot of couples in the industry who decided to call it quits.
While some of those breakups were loud and got the involvement of the media, others were subtle and they didn’t have to involve the media. Make no mistake, some of these relationships have lasted for almost 10 years while others are only a few months old.
This list includes all breakups that have happened so far in the industry. Keep reading to check if any of your favourites have split, you just may be surprised.
1. Scott Phillips and Julie Bowen
Julia Bowen who was a star featured in the movie Modern family and her ex-husband Scott Philips had decided to split. They got married in 2004 but then decided to split up 14years later. It was a subtle separation and the couple didn’t have to provoke the attention of the social media.
In early February, the couple decided to separate and just a few days later, Julie filed for a divorce from her ex husband staying the fact that they had irreconcilable differences between them as the reason for the divorce.
After sharing their properties, they concluded that they wanted joint custody for their three kids. According to an inside source, the couple had separated since 2017 but their divorce eventually was finalized in February.
2. Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff
This celebrity couple had their own separation on a very subtle and low key note. According to E! News, this beautiful actress and singer had split since 2017 precisely in December but they didn’t make their separation known to the media till January.
Their break up was a very peaceful and an amicable one. In an instagram picture, she explains why she is still wearing the ring her ex-boyfriend has given her despite the fact that they aren’t together again.
According to her, she said “Love is powerful. It is a really cool eternal thing and I’m wearing this ring that Jack gave me and I will always wear it. Love doesn’t have to be defined as we embers of the western culture define it. It doesn’t have to have a beginning or an end.”
3. Amber Heard and Elon Musk
Amber and Elon had initially separated in 2017. Although Elon claims that he is still very much interested and in love with Amber but apparently, it seems that love isn’t enough anymore.
Musk also added that Amber broke up with him more than he broke up with her. Whatever that means, We don’t know.
Shortly after they separated, they were seen together again and they rekindled their old love but after that, the couple split again. This time, it was for good.
4. Jesse Williams and Minka Kelly
If you are a fan of Grey’s Anatomy and also Friday Night lights, then you probably would know this duo.
The couple began their romantic relationship sometime in 2017 but then their relationship couldn’t survive more than the first few months before they broke up. Shortly after Jesse broke up and divorced his ex-wife Aryan Drake-lee who he had kids with, he and Minka started dating each other.
Due to the time difference and how fast he went from the divorce to dating Minka, the media started speculating that even before Jesse divorced his wife, he was having extra marital affairs.
These claims were however debunked by Minka as she quickly told the media to lay off. But then early January, the couple split with no reasons offered for their separation.
5. Kevin Sussman and Alessandra Young
Ever seen Big Bang theory? Then you must know Kevin. Earlier this year, precisely in January was getting divorced from his wife of 6 years Alessandra Young. The couple had tied the knot in January 2006 but they separated in December 2012.
They eventually got their divorce in 2014. But their divorce wasn’t eventually fully finalized till December 2017.
6. Donald Friese and Brandi Glanville
Brandi who starred in the movie Real housewives of Beverly Hills, dated Donald for approximately one year before the couple split. She tweeted and shared the news of their breakup.
Though they were able to keep their relationship and breakup out of the media, she still claimed that social media played a huge part if not responsible for their breakup.
In her words, Brandi claimed that most relationships you see breaking up today are ruined mostly by social media and that hers wasn’t an exception.
She added that she is officially single and she threw in a little advice. “If he is a lovely man, then women be nice and keep him”.
7. Dr Simone Whitmore and Cecil Whitmore
The duo were married for more than 20years before they finally filed for a divorce in October 2017. They usually had constant arguments which had eventually played out on a reality T.V show. When the arguments became too much, they tried counselling which was to no avail.
According to Simone, at a point it felt like they were improving and doing better and then they stopped counselling. But then again, they weren’t anymore. They started doing worse and Simone wishes that they had continued counselling.
Instead of focusing on themselves, they were focused on all other things ranging from basketball tournaments to preparing their child for school. What had caused their breakup according to Cecil was the argument they had last just immediately after their son went to college. They couldn’t get past the argument and so they called it quits.
In her words, “My marriage has ended. I can no longer deal with the loads of stuffs that he was dishing out to me”
8. Alicia Silverstone and Christopher Jarecki
This couple dated for a very long time, almost 8years before they eventually got married. After they got married in 2005, the couple stayed together up until recently that they got divorced.
The couple who got married in June 2005, split in February 2018. The couple have been together for almost 20 years and after the had their first child, the couple decided to split amicably as things were no longer working for them anymore.
The couple have a son together but then they decided on co-parenting.
9. Usher Raymond and Grace Miguel
The sensational RnB star Usher got married to his long time girl friend Grace Miguel. They had a very quiet wedding in 2015. But then barely, after three years, the couple decided to call it quits. They said that after so much struggles, thoughts and considerations, they had decided to go their separate ways.
Although they admitted to being superb friends who can always come to the rescue when anyone of them have a problem. An incident that most people are suspecting to be the cause of their breakup were the huge amount of lawsuits from women who claimed to have gotten Herpes from Usher.
One of such hit in November 17 and after that lawsuit, Grace agreed that she had had enough of the marriage and the lawsuits everyday.
10. Anderson Cooper and Benjamin Maisiani
The proudly gay couple have been linked to each other since 2009 and for nine years they stayed together. When the announcement of their divorce came, It came as a huge surprise in March. Cooper said that they had separate long before now.
According to Cooper, he said that both he and Ben are still like family to each other and they still loved each other. He Said that they still remain the best of friends and that they will continue to share much of their lives together.
