Choosing baby names is constantly evolving, and we have some of our celebrities to thank for it.
Celebrities are known for inventing some of the most bizarre and creative names in history, from Moon Unit Zappa to the more recent 2020 Buddy Dessert and Lyra Antarctica.
Indeed, celebrity baby names are the true meaning of ‘out of this world.’
Surely, everyone is allowed to be creative with their name choices, and picking a baby’s name is supposed to be fun and thrilling.
But sometimes, this process can become overwhelming – this will accompany your little copy throughout their lifetime, and surely you wouldn’t want to mess that up for your kid.
Thankfully, you can never run out of ideas, as there are so many names out there—from vintage to popular selections—that may just be perfect for your little bundle of joy.
Luckily for us regulars, celebs are at the forefront of picking truly weird names that people love to make fun of – plus unique names that are just super-cool and avant-garde.
And hey, no one will judge you if you get some baby name inspiration from Celebland and stash it away for your baby.
There is no shame in opting for a fruit name after Gwyneth Paltrow named her daughter Apple, and it’s totally cool if you choose to play with primary colors after Beyonce named her daughter blue.
For every weird celebrity name out there, there is always another one that’s cool, beautiful, and perfect for your little one.
Here is a list of some weird celebrity baby names we’ve encountered.
You are welcome to go through them and pick the one that best fits your new baby, or borrow some inspiration from them and come up with your unique entry.
1. Lyra Antarctica
On September 1st, Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborn welcomed a baby girl and aptly named her Lyra, meaning ‘harp’ in Greek.
Given Sheeran’s talents, the name is quite an appropriate musical baby name. However, the inspiration behind the name Antarctica is anyone’s guess.
2. Buddy Dessert
We weren’t surprised when Brie Bella named her baby boy Buddy after his grandfather. However, we still can’t figure out why she chose Dessert as the boy’s middle name.
It turns out the name Dessert has been in her family for a long time, and it was actually her grandmother’s maiden name. Brie wanted her son to have something about her family history.
She also said the name is pronounced ‘desert’ instead of ‘Dessert.’ Well, we’re not making any promises, but we’ll try to remember that pronunciation.
3. X Æ A-12
We’ve seen our fair share of weird celebrity baby names, but nothing strikes up more controversy than Elon Musk & Grimes’ Baby’s Middle Name.
Grimes and her partner announced their first son’s birth in May and chose to name the child X Æ A-12.
The idea behind the name is as confusing as the name itself, and the funny part is that it ended up not being entirely legal in California.
Still, the couple gave the name some thought and found a loophole that the California birth certificate would permit.
X was taken as the first name (since the law only allows entries within the alphabet’s 26 letters).
However, this rule doesn’t apply to middle names, so they succeeded in keeping the other part of the name as his middle name.
Thankfully, we won’t have to pronounce the full name when addressing the baby in the future.
4. Romello Creed
Earlier this year, Teen Mom 2 star Kaylin Lowry welcomed baby number 4 with her ex, Chris Lopez, and named him Romello Creed Lopez.
She has never been disappointed in her choice of names, as her other children have super-unique names: Isaac Elliott Rivera, Lincoln Marshall Marroquin, and Lux Russell.
Though she’s opting to call him Creed, which means “guiding principle.”
5. Onyx
Amethyst Amelia Kelly, better known by her stage name Iggy Azalea, welcomed a son this year with her boyfriend, Playboi Carti, whom they named Onyx.
This is just one of the most outstanding names on this list, and it’s no surprise that she chose it, given that it’s the name of a precious stone—matching her first name.
We are just happy she didn’t name the child Playboi Junior. The singer took to Instagram in June to announce the news, telling her fans she had been looking for the perfect time to reveal the big news but had always been anxious.
She also wrote on the post, “I want to make his life private, but I wanted to make it clear he is not a secret, and I love him beyond words.”
6. Vanja Sevigny Mačković
In May 2020, Chloe Sevigny and her boyfriend, Sinisa Mačković, welcomed their son, Vanja Sevigny Mačković.
While the baby’s name may sound strange to us, it’s actually quite a classic choice and popular in most parts of the Indo-European region.
Vanja/Vanya is of Slavic origin and the diminutive of the Russian baby boy name Ivan, which means “God is merciful” or “God is gracious.
7. Callum Michael Rebel Kazee
Jenna Dewan’s first child with her boyfriend Steve Kazee was born in March 2020, and his name has a pretty impressive story behind its choice.
Kazee took the time to go to his Instagram to explain the reasons behind each name choice.” Callum: Gaelic for dove because he has been so sweet and peaceful since landing in our arms. Michael: my middle name.”
Rebel is the baby’s grandmom’s nickname from when she was little. “I wanted a way to honor my mother,” the new dad added. “Her name was Reba, but her father called her Rebel from a very young age. … And so … Callum Michael Rebel Kazee was born.”
8. Everly Tatum
Meanwhile, Callum’s elder sis Everly got quite a fairy-tale-sounding name when she was introduced to the big world in 2013.
After all, when you’re the daughter of Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan, you’re Hollywood royalty – so it’s logical that they gave her a name fitting for a princess. She’s called Ev for short, which is equally beautiful.
9. Reddix Madden
Cameron Diaz and hubby Benji Madden expected a baby and successfully kept the news out until they made the big reveal in January 2020. However, all we know about the baby girl is that she was named Reddix Madden.
We are still expecting more details about the name’s meaning, but it seems we won’t be getting any soon.
10. Crew Gaines
Chip and Joanna Gaines added a new member to the family in June 2020, and they chose the name Crew. While the baby has big shoes to fill, his name already gives him an edge.
11. Isla Rose Earnhardt
American racecar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and their wife, Amy Earnhardt, had their first child in 2018, and the baby was named Isla Rose. The name combo is just too adorable.
12. Mia Love
Mia is relatively common, and one of those names ends with ‘A’, which parents use when looking to match a baby’s name with their siblings.
But Robin Thicke and April Love took this lovely name a notch further by adding Love to it. The couple really made a great choice with this one.
13. Stormi Webster
After months of pregnancy rumors, Kylie Jenner finally announced the birth of her daughter, Stormi, with rapper Travis Scott.
As usual, fans were a bit curious about the story behind the name, and luckily for us, the mother shared some insights about how the name came to be.
In an interview, she told her sister, Kim Kardashian, that she and the baby’s father had a tough time settling on one name, and she never really liked the name Storm. So they improvised and came up with Stormi.
14. Rumi Carter
Beyoncé and long-time hubby Jay-Z gave birth to twins in June 2017 – a girl and a boy. The music power couple named the girl Rumi, one of the most fabulous names on this list.
But hey, when it comes to Beyoncé, would you expect anything less?
15. Sir Carter
The power couple named their boy Sir Carter, which pretty much sums up his identity—he is music royalty.
Not much has been seen about this handsome boy and his sister apart from occasional cute photos that pop up on the internet.
16. Blue Ivy Carter
This list won’t be complete without mentioning the twins’ big sister, little Blue. Jay-Z and Beyoncé welcomed their first child in January 2012 and gave her one of the most gorgeous and unique names in the history of celebrity baby names.
While the couple hasn’t clearly explained the inspiration behind the name, we suspect that the singer got the inspiration from Rebecca Solnit’s 2005 book A Field Guide to Getting Lost, as she posted an excerpt from the book on her Tumblr.
17. Forest Sage Palmer
When Theresa Palmer had her child with partner Mark Webber, they went full hippie with their name choice for the baby – and we love the movie.
Undoubtedly, baby Forest Sage will be quite comfortable in the woods.
18. Calliope Maeve Day
Felicia Day, better known for her role in Supernatural, succeeded in keeping her pregnancy a secret until three weeks before delivery when she made the announcement on Twitter.
Once the baby arrived, she didn’t hesitate to introduce little Calliope Maeve to the world, and though we aren’t quite familiar with the Calliope, we love it nonetheless.
19. Mabel Brand
Famous comedian Russell Brand is known for being somewhat ‘out-of-the-box,’ but he and his wife Laura Gallacher settled for a sweet traditional name for their little princess.
20. Dimitri Portwood Kutcher
When Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis welcomed their second baby in 2016, they named the boy Dimitri Portwood.
Dimitri is the Russian diminutive of the Greek name Demetrius (the god of fertility and farming). The name is an adorable Russian name that honors Kunis’ roots. The actress was born in Ukraine (in the defunct Soviet Union) when Russia occupied it.
The son was given Portwood as his middle name in honor of Kutcher’s stepfather, Mark Portwood.
21. Lula Rose Gardner
Liv Tyler and her fiancé, Dave Gardner, blessed their first daughter with this lovely name. It’s adorable and a nice new twist on other popular L baby girl names like Lila, Lily, and Lucy.
Fun Fact: While Lula doesn’t have a spot on the top 500 popular baby girls’ names, for now, it was quite popular in the 1800s and even ranked as high as number 39. We predict a comeback.
22. Frankie Afifi
Sarah Chalke (former Scrubs star) had a daughter with her fiancee, Jamie Afifi, and the child was christened Frankie. It’s kind of a cute and quirky name for a girl, and we love it.
23. Milo Kielty
Cat Deeley and hubby Patrick Kielty chose a short and simple name for their first child – Milo. It’s a short, sweet-sounding name that packs just the right punch.
24. Aidan Clinton Mezvinsky
When Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky had their first child, they chose a strong name for the baby boy: Aidan Clinton.
His siblings were also given strong names: Charlotte and Jasper. Aiden is of Gaelic origin, while the others are of French and Persian origins, respectively.
25. Ray Ling Song
Famous journalist and TV personality Lisa Ling had a child with her husband, Dr. Paul Song, and the couple chose to go for a girl named Ray Ling Song, who was as sunny and bright as they came.
The name has a melodic ring like it was ripped out of a nursery school rhyme. How sweet is that!
26. Josey Dorsey
Former Glee star Naya Rivera and their husband, Ryan Dorsey, consistently documented their child’s life journey from pregnancy to birth and the son’s first year on social media.
The couple had decided on the name even before they married – after Dorset revealed that he’d always wanted to name his first son Josey.
27. Otis Sudeikis
There isn’t much we don’t admire about celebrity couple Olivia Wilde and Jason Sudeikis. They are funny and down-to-earth and seem excited about their parents’ roles. Otis was just the right name for their first child – and his little sister is Daisy Josephine.
28. Luna Stephens
We all know how Chrissy Teigen and John Legend struggled with infertility for some time. But we were delighted to join them in welcoming their daughter, Luna Simone Stephen, in 2016.
Although the couple hasn’t come forward to explain the reason behind their name choice, we do know that Luna is the name of the Roman moon goddess. Baby Luna was followed by little Miles in 2018.
29. Jack Pratt
August 2012 was a trying time for actor Chris Pratt and his wife, Anna Faris, as they welcomed their baby boy nine weeks before his due date. The couple decided to go for the classic name Jack, which was also Anna’s father’s name.
30. River Rose & Remington Blackstock
Kelly Clarkson had her first daughter with hubby Brandon Blackstock, and the couple went for a sweet-sounding nature-inspired name for the girl, River Rose.
We also love the fancy name she chose for her son, Remington Alexander. A cute combination, don’t you agree?
31. Aden & Ariah Housley
Tamara Howey really had her thinking cap on when she chose the names for her kids. The Sister Sister star gave her son Aden, which is of Hebrew origin and means “Handsome.”
For the daughter – the younger of the two – she chose Ariah, which is also of Hebrew origin and means “Lion of God.”
32. James and Inez Reynolds
James is a popular baby boy name that has existed for a long time. However, when they gave it to their daughter, Ryan Reynolds and Black Lively decided it would sound unique as a baby girl’s name.
The couple explained that they chose to name their little princess James to honor Reynold’s father, who passed away in 2015.
The couple settled for Inez for their younger daughter – which is just as lovely.
33. Apple Martin
Although Apple is no longer a baby, her name is still as fascinating as it was when Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin decided on it in 2004.
Speaking on their choice of name, Paltrow opened up in an interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that it was the father’s idea.

Deciding our favorite baby name in the Wahlberg large family of six was a hectic task. Still, Ella and Michael stand out as both are traditional names and pack some family history behind them.
It’s easy to see why Mark Wahlberg and Rhea Durham chose Ella for their first daughter. The name is classically beautiful and enchanting.
They decided on Michael for their son in honor of Mark’s dad, who was fond of the name when the actor was growing up.
35. Harper & Gideon Burkta Harris
Neil Patrick Harris and their husband, David Burtka, had their twins Harper and Gideon via a surrogate.
Speaking on their choice of names, Neil confessed that he and Burkta decided on the names the old-fashioned way – by browsing the internet.
36. Haven Warren
Jessica Alba and her husband, Cash Warren, settle on Haven for the second daughter for a special reason. Haven came into this world still wrapped inside her amniotic sac.
When the father commented that the baby was born inside her “haven,” they knew instantly that they had gotten her name.
37. Finn, Liam, Stella, Hattie & Beau McDermott
We still haven’t fully understood how Tori Spelling picks names for her kids, but we love it. Spelling’s big family comprises Finn, Liam, Stella, Hattie & Beau, and her husband, Dean McDermott.
38. Flynn Christopher Bloom
Flynn Christopher Bloom is the son of Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr. He was named to honor a very special person in his mom’s life – her high school crush.
Christopher and Miranda dated for two years before he was killed in a car accident. We love that Bloom was comfortable with his wife naming their son after her high school sweetheart.
39. Hank Baskett IV
You really don’t have to brainstorm much when you have a family name to pass down. This is the fate of Kendra Wilkinson and Hank Baskett’s fate as they settled for their son’s family-heirloom name. We love the nickname Hank and the classic Henry.
40. Saylor Cutler
Celebrities get their baby name inspiration from many weird and fascinating stories, and Kristin Callavari is no exception. The actress confessed to naming her third child with husband Jay Cutler after a dog she met during her pregnancy. Although not everyone may fancy the idea, we love the adorable name nonetheless.
41. Wyatt Kutcher
People now see it as normal to give their baby girls names originally given to boys. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher did just that when choosing a name for their daughter. We love how the couple combined the name Wyatt with an ultra-feminine middle name for the girl, Isabelle.
42. Bohdi Green
It is a norm for parents to give their children names that reflect their religious beliefs. Brian Austin Green and Megan Fox followed the trend when they named their second son. Bohdi is definitely a unique name for a baby, but it suits the little boy perfectly.
43. Journey River Green
When Fox gave birth to her third boy with husband Green in 2016, she went for a ‘flowing’ nature-inspired name for the child. Journey River is an adorable name that perfectly fits Fox’s flower-child vibe.

Celebrity chef Curtis Stone and wife Lindsay Park were spot-on when they chose Emerson Spencer as their second son’s name. Emerson is a traditional name of English origin meaning “powerful” and “brave.
45. Milo & Elizabella Bugliari
Alyssa Milano has been on top of her parenting game, from her breastfeeding mom support to her postpartum body positivity campaign. So it’s no surprise that we find her choice of names adorable. Milano named her older child Milo Thomas, while his sister is Elizabella Dylan.

Carson Daly honored his wife, Siri Pinter’s grandmother, by choosing her name for their child. Etta is an old-fashioned name that hasn’t been in the limelight for long. We hope to see it grow in popularity in the coming years.

We are familiar with many celebrities wanting to keep their personal lives private, and one such couple is Rachel Bilson and Hayden Christensen.
But when they welcomed their daughter, Hayden shared why they settled on Briar Rose for their child.
According to the father, he and Rachel are huge Disney fans and got their inspiration from the popular cartoon Sleeping Beauty.

Is anything more adorable than a little boy sharing a name with his daddy? Of course not, and Daphne Oz picked up this trend when she named her son Jovan after his father, John Jovanovic. However, Jovan Jr. is mostly referred to as John.

Many parents love giving their twins names that begin the same letter, and the ones country singer David Nail picked for his twins are just on point: Lillian and Lawson.

Some couples tend to have clearly defined goals on how they want their baby’s name to be chosen. This is the case of model Molly Sims and her husband, Scott Stuber.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and wife Brittany are blessed with four children. It was a hard one picking our favorite name, but the winner is his youngest daughter’s name, Rylen Judith.
It seems the couple is sticking with their tradition of choosing quasi-rhyming names for their kids, as Rylen is the sister of Baylen, Bowen, and Callen.
62. Marlowe Martino
Marlowe Mae was born into a family of big names. She’s the daughter of actress Eva Amurri and Kyle Martino and the granddaughter of actress Susan Sarandon.
Speaking about how she felt about her granddaughter’s name, Sarandon confessed that it was an unusual choice, but she loved it—especially since it wasn’t the name of a vegetable or city.
