Who Are You?

Who are you? This is one of the vaguest questions that are often asked. The strange thing about this question is that there is no wrong answer; neither is there a right answer.

The right answer always depends on who is asking the question. Usually, when we get asked this question, we freeze just because we do not know which answer to give.

Though this article will bias “who you are” to your psychology.

 You Are Your Choices

A passenger said, “We are born with millions of little light shining in our heart; one light is up, we feel love, one dies when it moves away.”

Although that is not precisely what happens in our hearts, let’s just roll with it.

The indubitable truth is; all the choice you have made from the day you were born up until this second has somewhat shaped and made you into the unique person you are.

The sad thing is; the choice might not even be in ours to make or may have even been made for you. This choice we speak of may be as easy as picking a meal or having a conversation.

This is another way to explain the famous “Neuroplasticity of the brain.” This is why healthy choices cannot be overemphasized. A healthy choice could be leaving a toxic relationship, quitting a job, etc.

 You Are What You Believe

It is no secret that your belief is a vital factor in determining what is possible and what is not.

For it is utterly impossible to exceed what you think is possible. Since time immemorial, every breakthrough in every field was once seen as impossible until someone chose to defile the orthodox belief that turned reality.

A notable example includes;

The Enigma (it was a German device that was used to send encrypted war instruction to the field soldiers).

It was deemed impossible to decipher until a mathematician/inventor: Alan Turing came into the picture and built the first digital computer.

This was kept secret up until recent times due to the confidentiality agreement that was signed. Believing plays a vital role in every aspect of life.

As it is said, a battle is first won in the mind long before it is won in reality. This is why self-help books, scientific research done on the mind, always advise having a positive attitude towards what you want to do.

If you’re going to learn math, you have to stop believing math is difficult.

If you’re going to learn to play an instrument, you need to stop thinking your hands are too short, or your hands are too stiff. This is what separates the successful and the unsuccessful. Guard your belief.

You Are What You Know

Do not underestimate the adage that says the information is power. Joseph Prince a public speaker once said: “you are where you are because of what you know.”

If you are having an issue in an aspect of your life, find books, teachings, and mentors that have addressed that topic.

If you are an aspiring business person, find teachings on business, and expose yourself to as much as you can on business teachings.

If you are an aspiring scientist, expose yourself to as much of the history and works of a scientist.

If you are an aspiring artist, you should read the works of as many artists as you can come across. Doing this develops and prepares you for your profession far beyond what words can explain.

Above all, who you are is entirely up to you. If you don’t like who you are, then you should put in the work to change what you don’t like.

As it is said if you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and make a change.
