It is no news that body modification is not limited to women alone. Men have also been known to beautify themselves bodily the way women do through tattoos, tribal marks, and piercings, and the practice is as old as old can be.

Culturally, nose piercing is practiced in several countries like Nepal, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Kenya.

Nose piercing is considered one of the oldest forms of body beautification known to humankind.

Now men, asides from women, adopt this practice to either show how strong they are, express their sexuality, or just for fashion purposes (what is trending).

The option of piercings is numerous, and each ring is unique to the wearer. Let us consider the following, shall we?

Types of Nose Piercing

1. Nostril Piercing

Nostril Piercing

This is still the most common kind of piercing. Women in most countries do it, but more men are beginning to have it done on a daily.

It is believed to make the process of menstruation and pregnancy painless.

The jewelry is positioned just above the crease of the natural curve of the nostril, and the rest is history.

2. Double Nostril Piercing

Double Nostril Piercing

This bold process of piercing involves piercing three holes in the nostril’s top crease.

The jewelry pieces suitable for the double nose piercing may include the circular barbell, captive bead rings, I-shaped nose pin, nose hoop, nose bone, and nostril screw.

3. Triple Nostril Piercing

Triple Nostril Piercing

To get this done on your nose, one needs to be extra careful not to hit a nerve. The use of stud is most efficient and best to be used.

Be sure that whoever is helping you have this done is good at it.

4. Septum Piercing

Septum Piercing

You might have recognized the septum nose piercing common in the fashion industry among celebrities.

It is usually located in the nostril’s cartilage division or positioned on the sweet spot where there is lesser cartilage on the nose.

5. High Nostril Piercing

High Nostril Piercing

The high nose piercing is carefully positioned centimeters away from the nostril crease’s natural curve.

This form of piercing is common among the Indians, and the jewelry perfect for this kind of piercing may include I-shaped screws, studs, or nostril screws. Give it a try.

6. Bridge or Earl Piercing

Bridge Piercing

Like the name, the ring is positioned just on the bridge of the nose. It has no adverse effect on the cartilage or the nose bone, so there is nothing to worry about.

The curved barbell or the circular barbell would look amazing for this sort of piercing.

7. Septril Piercing

Septril Piercing

It is highly advisable to get the septril piercing by an expert to minimize your risk of infection.

The septril piercing is a complicated type of piercing that deals with a person’s septal cartilage and bone structure.

The pieces of jewelry that should be used here are the curved barbell, eyelet, nose bone, and studs.

8. Rhino or Vertical Tip Piercing

Rhino Piercing

The rhino piercing is a rare form of nose piercing that is positioned at the tip of the nose.

This unusual way of piercing the nose makes the curved barbell ring the only preferred jewelry suitable for it.

9. Nasallang Piercing

Nasallang Piercing

For people who don’t mind a little bit of adventure, the nasallang piercing is the perfect option for you.

This intense form of piercing enters the septum and nostril part since it is regarded as a tri-nasal piercing.

A horizontal barbell is a perfect piece of jewelry that should be used in nasallang piercing.

The Nose Piercing Procedure

The piercing procedure is generally divided into three parts which are; the preparation, actual piercing, and the healing process.

The preparation involves cleaning the equipment needed for the procedure and, more importantly, sterilization to eliminate unwanted outside bodies. The area of the nose where the piercing would be done must also be cleaned beforehand with a germicidal soap or an antiseptic so as to avoid possible infections on the nose after the piercing.

A surgical marker, also known as the Gentian, is used to mark the area where the piercing should be done right after when you must have picked the jewelry of your choice, considering the type your skin is compatible with, so future irritation can be avoided altogether.

A piercing needle- sterilized- would be needed during the penetrating process. With circular forceps, the nose is clamped to ensure a precise hole on the nose.

It is imperative that the septum is considered when having the piercing done. Little or no force is required as the septum is highly sensitive, and extra care is needed. After having the hole done, your jewelry of choice can then be attached.

The pain factor

The process of having your nose pierced can be very crucial, and it requires the use of manual force so the skin and cartilage break free but void of damage. The manual force applied may cause intense pain during the procedure, and there is nothing unusual about it.

Feel free to express the pain through tears if the pain is unbearable; there is no shame in that. The good news is the pain would last for a few seconds, depending solely on the efficiency of the hired piercer.

The size of the jewelry used may also determine the level of pain you feel, which is why it is advisable to go for smaller and thinner jewelry to minimize the pain you feel during and after piercing.

The Healing Process

The healing process takes longer time than the piercing, especially since the nose cartilage requires more time to heal, and it may take up to 3 to 8 months to recover completely, and it also depends on how well you take care of the nose.

Inadequate care of the nose may prolong the healing process for more than eight months. This means that you need to care for your nose consistently to guarantee fast and complete healing.

The Aftercare

  1. The self-care routine may require you to avoid constant touching of the pierced area as the bacteria your hands carry may continuously delay the healing and even expose your nose to more infection. So when you continually touch your nose in the guise of checking and re-checking to feel for the nose, you are doing more harm than good. Hence, causing even more severe infection.
  2. Avoid the application of makeup or other beauty products on the pierced area. Most of the products in use these days contain strong chemicals that can worsen the wound on the area that’s being penetrated. This is why it is vital you avoid applying makeup in the affected area.
  3. Jewelry change should be avoided entirely if the nose isn’t fully healed. Changing the jewelry may cause irritation due to the movement during the change and even create fresher injury.
In fact, avoid any form of alteration or touching till healing is complete.
  4. Excess cleaning should be avoided entirely. Once or twice is enough, as over-cleaning can be likened to over-touching, and this is not good for the wound. Simply stop it.
  5. Strong medicines like hydrogen peroxide, alcohol, hot balms, and harsh ointments should never be used as they have properties that can damage the skin tissues on the nose. Imagine what that would do to the wound.
  6. Forcing crust formation on the wound isn’t advisable. Like every other injury, crust formation should be left to fall off on its own.
Forcing the crust off may just as well make the condition worse.

Now you know the dos and don’ts of getting a nose piercing, why not fix an appointment this weekend? Boost your confidence and ignite your fashion sense with your new look.

Cheers!
