Currently, it feels like the entire world is on a compulsory holiday, as we have been mandated to stay at home in order to stay safe. This is to prevent the spread of the current virus, which is plaguing our world, which we know as the Corona Virus or COVID-19.
The mandatory stay home exercise has been on for some days now, and people are beginning to get bored. At least, I know I am. However, do you know that there are ways to spice up your current boring life even while staying indoors?
Do you realize that before the era of fast-food restaurants, cinemas, hang out spots, people still were able to enjoy themselves? How did they do it, you may ask?
Well, this article is meant to give you an insight or a possible list of all the fun things you can do that will make you not feel like going out.
1. Take a rest
You may be wondering why we are starting on this note? It is no longer news that the majority of us live our lives at a fast pace. We hardly stop to slow down. We eat on the go, sleep in the vehicle, see movies while on transit, and so many other things.
While it is not advisory to live a sedentary lifestyle, however, once in a while, it is good to stop and take a breather. Now is the time you have to do it. Take that rest you have been meaning to take.
Have a refreshing, long bathe. You don’t have to rush out of the house (you can’t anyway). So instead of having to be on “the run,” it is time to let your much-needed rest catch up with you. Rest helps you relax your mind and keep your body at ease.
It helps the flow of endorphins, which is also known as the feel-good hormone, to flow through your body, and you can be rest assured that when you wake up, you will not only feel refreshed, you will feel energized and reactivated.
2. Enjoy your breakfast
Do you realize that the majority of us skip breakfast, and for those who don’t, don’t take time to savor their meals? When last did you sit back, relax, and enjoy the flavor, aroma, and toast of the food you made for breakfast?
If you haven’t, or if it has been a long while, you did that, I suggest it is time to do it. Not having anywhere else to go or nothing on your mind frees your mind for other thoughts asides work.
Take time, cook that meal to your satisfaction. Savor the taste. If possible, make a breakfast you haven’t taken before. It is easy to do these days. There are lots of cookbooks and videos on YouTube that are just waiting for your consumption, use them.
Try out new dishes and enjoy them. Before you begin your fast-paced life once again, you will be glad you did.
3. Clean
It may seem like we are telling you to do chores, well, yes. We are. You probably have not had enough time to see your house sparkle as you want it to be, so here is your opportunity.
Take time out to clean your rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, garage, your car, and so many other things that may need cleaning.
You may also need to clean out your closet too. If you are anything like me, you probably have a hundred clothes and wear only 20.
It is time for a swap. Rearrange your closet to accommodate a change in your routine. While at it, you probably may find old clothings that you love and who knows, you just may find a little change in its pockets.
4. Wash
You have been too used to the laundryman. Not that it is a bad thing; however, this is an excellent time for you to do your laundry. Since you are on a compulsory holiday, take this time to do your laundry.
To my beautiful ladies, now is the perfect time to wash your make-up brushes and your hair combs. You sure didn’t have the time to clean out with all the work and pressure you have had to go through.
Now that you have a breather, it is time for that wash, don’t you think?
5. Tend to your garden
If you have a garden, it is time to tend to it. Yeah, we know you do it every weekend or every other day due to the fact that you don’t have time. Well, now that you have lots of time working from home, you can start tending to it.
It’s time to remove the weeds, water those plants, and clean around the boundaries. It’s time to make your little garden beautiful again. You will be surprised at how much happiness these little things can give you.
6. Write a journal
Are You into writing? Well, let your ideas come forth this period. You can pick up your pen and start writing. You probably have had that idea in your head for quite a while now; it is time to put it into writing and, if possible, start implementing your thoughts.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be an idea. Generally, psychologists say that it is healthy to keep a journal. So it is time for you to. Write down your thoughts, how you feel, what you need to change.
You can even decide to make a bucket list of what you want to do. This time out affords you the opportunity to have a clear hand and think deeply. So let’s start writing, shall we?
7. Finish a book or two
Books are fantastic. They say, “every reader is a leader.” This saying is very correct. There is probably that book that you have always wanted to read, but because you are swamped with work, and traffic deals with you on a daily basis such that by the time you get home, you are deadbeat.
Well, now you are at home all day, and there is no traffic. So why don’t you pick up that book and start reading it? You can also try to create a reading schedule giving yourself little breaks in between.
By the time you are allowed to go out again, you just may be surprised at how many books you have finished and how well informed you are. So what you don’t have hard copy books? You can decide to read online.
Read articles, read posts that are relevant to you. Just make sure you are reading, improving, learning, and getting a better view of the world and how it works.
8. Listen to songs
One great way to relax yourself is to listen to cool music. You can decide to listen to good songs that will bring an uplift to your spirits and keep you in a better mood. Music, some say, is life. Well, we can’t argue with them, can we?
9. Dance and do workouts
When last have you had the time to dance? To dance freely and unrestricted? Probably been ages ago. Well, you have that time now. Switch on the music and dance. Dance your hearts out. Dance to your heart content.
Guess what, dance is a good workout too. You are burning fat and calories as you do what you love to do. Guess your dancing shoes on and switch on the music, shall we?
10. Hangout and gist with your family
If you do stay with your family, then you will understand the importance of family time. Do you know how much you have missed out on your children’s lives because you don’t have that time due to the nature of your job?
Well, it’s staying home time now. Have some alone time with your kids. Listen to them as they talk. Let them speak to you about their school, their friends, their teachers. You can bet that they have a lot they want to tell you.
You can also decide to bond with them by playing games with them. Set a schedule. Play chess and any other board game such as a monopoly with them. These games task the brain and also promote family bonding.
Eat and hang out with your family. Trust us, you will be glad you did.
11. Bond with your spouse
Do you know that you can turn this holiday into a little bit of an indoor honeymoon for you and your partner? You don’t necessarily have to go for the extremes.
Just a simple lying in bed seeing movies, having breakfast, lunch, and dinner, playing games with him or her, and generally bonding with each other will suffice.
This will bring both of you closer than ever. Create a schedule with your partner. You both can decide to do the chores such as cleaning, washing, sorting out the closet together. This can create memories for you both to look back on.
12. Surf the internet for fun
When last have you gone through blogs and sites, not for research or to make a presentation but for the sheer pleasure of it? Well, you have time on your hands for that now. You can easily do that.
Pick your phone and look through the internet. There are several funny things on the internet that can keep you smiling. You don’t have to be serious all the time. Have a little fun.
We understand that this might not be your favorite holiday, especially when it feels like we are all forced to be at home. However, one thing we humans are good at is making use of items at our disposal. We can still enjoy this period at home and turn them into pleasant memories.
